At the heart of every production system are key components that drives volume and performance efficiency. For COEXPAN, a global leader in plastic extrusion for thermoforming, these essential elements at the Montonate plant are Cimbria’s SEA.IQ PLUS and SEA.HY optical sorters.
With over fifty years of expertise, COEXPAN embodies a natural inclination towards technology and a steadfast commitment to selecting high-value production solutions. This ensures their facilities are equipped with top-tier machinery to meet the industry's evolving demands. This deep-rooted technical knowledge and progressive mindset enable COEXPAN to make informed decisions that guarantee exceptional performance. Cimbria’s SEA.HY and SEA.IQ PLUS have met COEXPAN’s rigorous quality standards for new technologies at the Montonate (VA) plant and have been adopted as a combined solution to tackle the challenges of R-PET optical sorting.
The SEA.HY is equipped with advanced cameras capable of distinguishing materials with similar surface colors but different chemical signatures, ensuring the precise separation of non-PET polymers to produce purified R-PET.
The SEA.IQ PLUS features an innovative set of quadricromatic Full-Color + NIR cameras designed to differentiate plastics based on color shades and opacity, resulting in the separation of PET into clear and blue-tinted streams.
Upstream in the production process, a powerful Cimbria DELTA146 Combi Cleaner, equipped with a sophisticated aspiration and sieving system, removes impurities to ensure a calibrated and dust-free final product.
This technological synergy enables the Lombardy plant to process large quantities of PET flakes daily, producing rigid sheet rolls and uniform plates primarily for food packaging, where high market quality standards are essential.
The SEA.IQ PLUS and SEA.HY underwent rigorous testing at Cimbria’s laboratory in Imola to evaluate their performance against industry quality standards, simulating real production loads and quantities. The results confirmed the systems' compliance with the required functional parameters, demonstrating consistent performance under prolonged and full-capacity conditions.
“The tests conducted at Cimbria’s laboratory in Imola demonstrated the efficiency of these machines, giving us the confidence needed for the plant’s implementation,” says Marcello Colnaghi, General Manager of COEXPAN Italy.
“The efficiency achieved in the laboratory tests is the same that the customer will experience once the plant is operational in its real situation. This is our promise,” says Lorenzo Tinti, Sales Manager Italy of Cimbria Srl.
The robust performance demonstrated in the tests allowed COEXPAN to evaluate the machines' potential in their specific industrial context. The new plant will elevate process standards, enhancing the company’s production efficiency, which has always been at the forefront of sustainability efforts.
