Cimbria provides security for people with different challenges and reduced work capacity.
”[Cimbria] is my life – and it means the world to me that I am not forced to stay in my home.”
These are the words from Leo Soegaard, a 57 years old blacksmith that works in Cimbria’s manufacturing dept. No. 30 in Thisted, Denmark.
Cimbria’s department 30 began in 2016, when the municipality of Thisted decided to close down the local Center for rehabilitation for work activity. This was the activity and rehabilitation center for locals with reduced work capacity.
Long before 2016, these locals were producing parts for Cimbria products sold all over the world. The municipality closing down the center left Cimbria with a decision to make; should the production of these parts now take place abroad or should Cimbria take responsibility - not only for the production of the parts but also for the people involved?
In the end, the decision was not difficult because taking social responsibility must be for the benefit of all involved, and in this case, it would mean good business for Cimbria. It was a win-win project for Cimbria, for the people and for the local municipality!
Today department 30 thrives with 32 employees – some of which have reduced working capacity and some with full working capacity. With the cooperation of the local municipality, Cimbria provides security for people with different challenges and reduced work capacity, making a significant difference in the community:
Having an employment contract and having a great workplace “…gave me hope of a normal life again” (statement from a former young employee in dept. 30)
Back to Leo - where does he fit into this story?
Leo started in Cimbria as a young skilled black smith and after nearly 30 years, his needs could no longer take to standing all day, and his work capacity was significantly reduced after surgery. This meant flex-job and reduced hours for Leo. This is where department 30 makes a difference in both Leo’s life and in the lives of other Cimbria employees, where a long and hard working life has left its marks and reduced their working capacity.
- It is my life. What else should I do? Find a new job – and where would that be? To me (department 30) means I am not forced to stay in my home.
Leo is just one out of the 32 people working in dept. 30 today and this story is just a glimpse of how Cimbria work with Corporate Social Responsibility and inclusion.
