Cimbria leverages green energy procurement in Stockerau, Austria, to help power a renewable future

Cimbria has secured Energie AG green energy certification in Austria, for the purchase of renewable electricity, which is all coming from hydropower. The certification - which comes after several years of collaboration between the two companies - confirms the use of 100% renewable electricity in the factory.

The certification endorses the saving of 73 tons of CO2 through renewable energy compared to traditional energy sources. In addition, the electricity production comes from local renewable sources, demonstrating an environmental commitment to continuous improvement in the community.

For Cimbria - one of the key brands within AGCO Grain & Protein - this is only the first step into a broader project of sustainable action that the company will put in place over the coming years to help reduce AGCO’s global greenhouse gas (GHG) footprint.

Commenting on the certification, Mr. Günther Schwarz, Production Manager at Cimbria in Stockerau, Austria, said: "We are committed to reducing CO2 emissions, not only with our machines which are made with advanced responsible technologies, but also with our smart manufacturing operations. We are doing our best to protect the environment by conserving energy and expanding our use of cleaner energy.  This is how we are contributing to a greener planet, a sustainable future and, in turn, greener production.”

Another major step towards conserving resources and reducing Cimbria’s energy use is the installation of thermal roof insulation at site in Stockerau. This project started in the last 12 months and is expected to complete shortly. Further, most of Cimbria’s buildings are kept warm through heat being locally generated from biomass.

“This new insulation system will be an essential feature to increase energy-efficiency, driving Cimbria ahead into the future,” said Günther.

The Cimbria Stockerau team is not just stopping there; they are evaluating to invest on another project next year which aims to secure 80% of the sites electricity from on-site renewable energy via a solar powered photovoltaic system. “We anticipate the size of the solar project being in the region of 600kWp, which we see as a significant step in terms of reducing our GHG footprint and further advancing our environmental commitment,” said Günther.

Remarking on Cimbria’s achievements, Louisa Parker-Smith, Head of Sustainability at AGCO Corporation said, “Excuse the pun, but I love the ‘energy’ and commitment shown by the Cimbria team in Stockerau which will go towards boosting AGCO’s green credentials.  I look forward to seeing the outputs from these initiatives over the coming months.”
